GONE VIRAL is an exhibition of works that use contemporary art to respond to all kinds of unexpected, rapidly spreading and global phenomena of our time, whether they be a blessing or a bane. The word "viral" is a metaphor for the shock and aftermath of Covid-19, but it is also more than that.

youngart GONE VIRAL contemporary fine art traveling exhibition

Our entire civilisation is becoming increasingly and inexorably technology-dependent, accustomed not only to the dizzying pace of development and proliferation of products and services, but also to the epidemic spread of news and fake news, fashions and counter-fashions, religious fads and new tribal myths, political visions and world-changing utopias and doomsday fantasies. What to do in the world of GONE VIRAL? Do we defend against it, surrender or exploit it? What is art to do and does it still have a chance in this posthuman world? What is art: quarantine? Is it vaccination? Distancing? A prayer?

The works are grouped in three rooms:

1. GONE VIRAL: STRUCTURAL?

The works collected here explore man-made networks, structures, connections and spaces: they question order, rules, transparency, the complexity of logic and reason.

2. GONE VIRAL: ORGANIC?

The works presented in this room are beautiful in a different way: they are alive, mobile, behaving like self-moving natural organisms. They can change shape, multiply, create anxiety but also promise comfort.

3. GONE VIRAL: HUMAN?

Under this title, the human world and its environment are more directly addressed: grotesque images of our habits, our relationships, our reactions, our sometimes frightening, sometimes amusing present time. Our hidden refuges: irony, self-reflection, wit...
